    Title: Gifted and Talented K-12 Teacher

    Job Summary:
    The Gifted and Talented Teacher provides services to students, teachers, administrators, and parents in order to meet identified students’ needs. The position requires the identification and programming of high ability students in the five areas of intellectual, specific academic, creativity, the arts, and leadership. The position has districtwide responsibilities under the direction and coordination with the ELL / Gifted Education Coordinator.

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Experience writing and developing curriculum for gifted learners

    • Knowledge of differentiation and compacting strategies for the gifted

    • Knowledge and understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional characteristics, needs, and challenges of gifted students

    • Knowledge of best practices for teaching the gifted

    • Knowledge of assigned standards and curriculum (grades K-12 AZCCRS)

    • Familiarity with the Odyssey of the Mind Program model

    • Arizona assessment objectives and best practices for instruction

    • Excellent teaching skills

    • Leadership skills

    • Knowledge of and experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office

    • Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills

    • Self-motivated and solution oriented

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Assist coordinator in identification of gifted students.

    • In cooperation with the regular classroom teacher, support instruction of identified K-12 students.

    • Serve as a resource person for the classroom teachers, providing materials, methods, and ideas to ensure appropriate educational experiences for the gifted student in the regular classroom.

    • Serve as a member of the school team which is made up of the principal and classroom teachers, communicating frequently and regularly with parents of the gifted students.

    • Assist the coordinator with district in-service directed at an awareness of gifted education at Page Unified School District, and the development of teaching skills necessary to better meet the needs of gifted students in the regular classroom.

    • Develop and implement a flexible, individualized, enriching curriculum appropriate to meeting the individual gifted pupil’s needs and nurturing group interaction.

    • Create an environment in which gifted students can use their strengths, explore their personal and interpersonal development, risk new areas of thought and action and feel challenged.

    • Nurture creativity in all its aspects of thinking, feeling, intuiting, and expressing talent through products.

    • Encourage, in gifted learners, a sense of social awareness and commitment to humanity and to their environment, and a respect for the worth and dignity of others.

    Certification/Education:
    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Arizona teaching certificate with Gifted and Talented endorsement or able to acquire within first year.
    Completion of course works satisfying the requirements for issuance of an Arizona Teaching Certificate and all endorsements in the area(s) of assignment. Applicants are required to be Properly Certified by Arizona teaching certification guidelines- Please contact Arizona Department of Education at http://www.azed.gov/educator-certification/ for information concerning reciprocity. A Level I Fingerprint Clearance Card is requiring for obtaining AZ Certification. The Human Resources Department assists with the application process.

    Evaluation:
    The teacher's performance is evaluated by the building principal and/or designee according to the provisions of PUSD's policy on evaluation.

    Salary:
    Certified Salary Schedule. Placement is determined by years of experience and education. Up to 20 years of experience credited on the certified salary schedule with appropriate verification.
