    Work Year: 9 months, Full-time

    • Must be a highly qualified paraprofessional by completing one of the following:
      o Possess an AA degree
      o Have two years of college credits
      o Demonstrate knowledge of reading, writing, math, and the ability to assist in instructing these subjects by passing the paraprofessional PRAXIS test
    • Minimum one year of experience with students with social emotional and/or behavioral needs
    • Current fingerprint clearance card with Arizona Dept of Safety
    • Particpate and complete district, CPI Training
    • Complete First Aid/CPR Training
    Job Goal:
    Under direct supervision of SPED Teacher, provide instructional, behavioral, and related support to special education students as an integral component of the Behavior classroom within the Page Unified School District.

    Essential Duties:
    • Assists teacher in preparing and presenting instructional activities and lessons with individual students and small groups
    • Assists with testing, instruction and other learning activities, as assigned by the teacher
    • Assists in maintaining student files, records, grade sheets, attendance, and other classroom records
    • Assists with planning and implementation of class projects and special events
    • Assists with student supervisory responsibilities both in and outside the classroom
    • Helps provide guidance and serves as the main resource for substitute staff
    • Performs clerical duties as required including typing, inventory, filing, order supplies, etc.
    • Assists in maintaining a positive classroom environment ensuring neatness and attractiveness of the classroom; organizes and prepares classroom for various teaching activities
    • Participates in in-service training programs as directed
    • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding students
    • Assists in annual inventory of equipment and materials in assigned area
    • Performs Substitute Teacher duties on an as-needed basis
    • Maintains positive, professional relationships with staff, students, parents and referral sources
    • Handles crisis in a professional/calm manner following established protocols and intervention procedures
    • Monitors, supervises, and records daily behavior of students (inside and outside the classroom) with data collection process
    • Assists teacher in implementing school and classroom procedures and behavior plans
    • Participate in IEP meetings and staffing to provide reports of academic / behavioral performance
    • Meets/greets and escorts students to various activities and sites
    • Assist in de-escalating student behavior and implementing crisis intervention strategies
    • Write incident reports/provide documentation as instructed
    • Receive and make phone calls to / from parents, staff, and outside agencies as directed
    • Assist Clinical Therapist with management and implementation of therapeutic program as needed
    • Other duties as assigned

    Working Environment:
    Normal classroom setting with moderate physical activity; must be physically capable of implementing crisis intervention techniques

    Supervise students as directed by SPED teacher

    SPED Teacher, Educational Services Director and Site Principal
